It's not clever enough. The characters are very two-dimensional and every episode uses the same outline; nothing ever surprises after the first episode.

noddy wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 10:07 am yeh, it will be rebooted without a doubt - they already had a "black female" 007 in this movie, bets are high it will be atleast one of those features in the new one :)

While I respect everyone has their favorite James Bond actor...Daniel Craig ultimately stunk-- and the producers aren't going ever going to top Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.
Sean Connery was the only unashamed macho, Roger Moore was tounge in cheek and absurd about it.

Brosnan and Doltan blur into one accountant figure to me.

and Daniel Craig is probably the worst of the lot - constant duck face pouting and caught in post modern script insanity.
Sean Connery made the Bond role iconic.

I thought that George Lazenby gave it a good go in "OHMSS". Having Diana Rigg as the main Bond girl didn't hurt either.

The only Moore / Dalton / Brosnan film that I recall enjoying is "Tomorrow Never Dies".

I think that Daniel Craig could have been iconic, he started out well in "Casino Royale" and I also liked "Quantum of Solace", but found the rest forgettable due to the increasingly woke scripts. I may even give the most recent one a miss.

yeh, I dont see the point in trying to make Bond woke - it pleases neither the woke nor the unwoke.

hopefully they realise that sooner rather than later but im not holding my breath.

Bourne, John Wick and Mission Impossible have largely replaced Bond for that big silly action movie, it really should lean into its anachronistic strengths rather than apologise for them.

Recently watch another Marvel film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and "Red Notice".

Rate both as airplane films. Movies one watches during a long flight to help one fall asleep.

So far, the only Marvel film that entertained me was "Guardians of the Galaxy" mainly due to a talking racoon and tree.

yeh, i downloaded that new marvel thing - it was aggresively paint by numbers and average and I had already forgotten the first half of it during the second half, it was barely background noise for dinner and nothing more.

I actually enjoyed Red Notice a wee bit - i have a soft spot for brainless , predictable action comedies, again I have already forgotten it but it was atleast a pleasant enough way to eat dinner.

the rock did the rock things, the smart arse guy did smart arse things, gal gadot did hot model things, some of the jokes landed, it was fine as a straight to dvd type movie.

Quite. The difference between the Marvel "Ten Blings" and "Red Notice" is that I'd finish watching "Red Notice" on a plane before falling asleep.
Some the of smart arse guy dialog I found funny.

The thrill is gone.

Hollywood is now mere content for the internet, just as books were once for movies.

Finally watched "No TIme to Die" in the ether of the internet.

As it ended with a bang, it's a good time to retire the Bond series.

increasingly of late - hollywood is also gross people, the other half and I noticed the lack of charismatic leads in the current crop of movies

they arent sending us the best people.

the harvests from the wild seas of late has been shite, even for free i feel ripped off.

the northman allegedly an arty indendant take on viking machodom, definately one of the shittest hot takes ive seen for quite some time, it was the passive aggressive, inner city soy boy understanding or something, i dont know, i stopped watching half way once the bemusement, turned into boredom.

the kings man mess of indulgent incoherant nothing, the first of these movies was kinda fun, its been a steep cliff drop after that.

death on the nile missing something , anything, to lift it above whatever it was - nobody was likable, and for a movie that relies on wittyness - the wit was witless. i seem to have a complete disconnect with anything Kenneth Branagh touches.

moonfall I seriously dont remember watching it, but i did, im sure of it, i think i regret it but i cant remember.,

bat man they really should give up at this stage, the meta absurdity is all it has left.

the lost city romancing the stone type , b grade rom com indiana jones thing - the most interesting bit was the crazy lavender Andra Bullock has done to her face, its really quite distressing from some angles.

uncharted, morbius - too shite to even type a sentance about how shite they are.

I unfortunately saw two of those as well.

The Batman: My initial impression was that it was okay- a serviceable (good in certain aspects) opening set-up that loses steam in the second act and just peters out by the third act. The more I think about it, the lesser it seems across the board. It's lousy and cynical and there isn't a whole lot there beyond the need to have Batman product on the market. The cinematography and the digital-to-physical process (and damaged lenses they used) is mentionable for the effort but it was no where as good as advertised.

The King's Man: was terrible.

Did anyone involved with the movie even try? Everything about it was ugly; and when it wasn't busy being ugly, it was working hard at being stupid. This is clearly a corporate committee work where the committee saw they owned a brand and wanted to reinvigorate/reboot it as the first two movies didn't do the money they expected.

I think that the talented and creative people that were once attracted to the film industry now go into other fields.

oh, the blackness.

im seriously over that, and over the mixing that makes explosions house shattering and the voices mumble quiet.

apparently the auteur types do it deliberately so that the theatres and people with expensive home setups get to enjoy it properly.

that level of out of touch arrogance and missed placed sense of worth deserves to be laughed at, not respected.
