Ah, yes. The good old days when, at least according to the pundits, Japan was poised to take over the planet.

I've got your picture
Of me and you
You wrote "I love you"
I wrote "me to"
I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do

Oh it's in color
Your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel
And soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I've like a million of you over myself
I want the doctor to take a picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down and turning in and
turning 'round

I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so

Having such a hard wank that one goes squinty-eyed* is very funny and at the same time, rather disturbing, imagery.

Two more points:

1/ Negative campaigning does not work well in Canada.

2/ Appeals to xenophobia, including Islamophobia, do not work well in Canada.

Apparently the incumbent Conservatives, unlike the other two parties, tried both this recent campaign only to have both backfire on them.

Many defence ministers pose for photos with military hardware, but few pull off the true badass combat stance as well as Harjit Singh Sajjan — draped in flak jacket and camouflage, gripping an assault rifle on an actual battlefield.

Sajjan was, until recently, a decorated Lieutenant-Colonel in the Armed Forces, the first Sikh Canadian to command an army regiment.

..

He was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina and three times to Afghanistan, for which he was awarded one of the military’s highest recognitions, the Order of Military Merit, for reducing the Taliban’s influence in Kandahar Province.

“He has a taste for the reality of war and that’s very, very important,” said David Bercuson, director of the Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary.

This is propaganda by Harper folks, distortion .. for illiterate people

Canadian bank accounts, same as American bank accounts, up to a certain amount, are guaranteed by Bank of Canada (BOC) deposit insurance.

Meaning if a Canadian bank goes bust, all account holder up to certain amount will be paid out by BOC (insurance).

The account holders in excess of that amount .. and the bond holders .. their money will be converted to Shares of the bank, they get shares of the bank for the amount of their excess deposit or bonds they holding.

That is excellent, fair, and the way it should be also in US.

Reason is, those lending to the bank, buying Bank's bond, taking risk in the bank .. if they know upfront that this would happen if the bank goes bust, they would include this in their risk calculation and lend only to strong banks.

And, those who have in excess of the insured amount in their bank account, should chose the "strongest bank" for their bank account, taking the risk themselves.

This arrangement would shift the risk of banks away from Bank of Canada (Government) to those who lend to Banks (buying their bonds) and those who's deposit exceeds the insured amount .. that is the way it should be.

In US, when the crooks fleeced America, FED, meaning American people, bailed out the banks .. that was wrong.

It may be better than a general bail out.. but it still bypasses the real issue: banksters who take other people's money to the casino and loose don't feel it in their own pockets.

Risk is part of life and even of responsible banking. Irresponsible banking however, where the excess risk is the result of banksters venturing in ponzi schemes where they cash in on the gains but transfer losses entirely to others - like people who in good faith put their money on their accounts - is as sick as those general bail outs. It appears an improvement, but it isn't and just shows they do everything to avoid responsibility and will always make sure others pay for their mistakes - sometimes even deliberate "mistakes" where they gamble on the losses of their own customers.

No human being performs better, learns anything when the pain of mistakes or failure is not felt personally and always transferred to others. This is not rocket science, just common sense. That the problem is very complicated and difficult to solve is just a smoke screen and blatant propaganda kept alive by the freeloaders in Wall street et-al and their henchmen in politics who obviously want to keep the way things are and make same tasty money all they way until things collapse....but they living comfortably on the Bahamas already.

i agree 100%.

canada and australia have massive private debt problems, it will only work out sanely if the government sticks to its core feature of safety net for the total cockups and lets the other parastic fire economy sociopaths learn the lessons they need to learn.

it should not waste 1 cent on bailing out any aspect of this idiocy.

the big lesson from the european fiasco is no to turn private debt into public debt, let the private cockups remain in the place they where made, contain the drama in one place.

sadly, too many folks like these idiots like trudea who over promise, then blame 'external factors' for the nightmare they create.

Iceland has the solution. Get rid of private central banking. Replace fractional reserve banking with a monetary expansion system based on assets instead of debt. Eliminate the extended rehypothecation of assets. Jail the banksters and claw back what they looted.

True .. but .. best way to prevent that .. is to make the big money account holders and people who lend to banks "assess" the risk level the bank represents .. Band of Canada can not "babysit" the big account holders and people (bond holders) who's job is to be careful to not lend to risky folks (those who lend to banks, bond holders, money managers of funds, they themselves are employee and lending "other people's money", when things don't work, they resign and go to another fund doing the same, taking their "bonus" with them.)

Experts, government folks, know shifting "risk assessment" of banks and consequence of it, to big account and bond holders the best and fairest way to prevent bank disasters, they become "real" stake holders .. experts know this .. but, political crooks trying to fool the general public to vilify Liberals, Trudeau.

This dishonesty

Canada will take in an additional 10,000 Syrian refugees,
additional to 30,000 already received last few months

Syrian refugee the best immigrant Canada will get at this point .. Canada should take at least 200,000, preferably 500,000 .. unless Canada wants to be Chinese or Indian.

Always remember "Steve Jobs" .. if there was no Syria, there would be no smart phone, no iPhone

My pinko commie northern atheist multiculturally fluoridating friends in Canuckistan inform me that E Vancouver ~ E Hastings is the poorest postal [zip] code in Canada.

clNDUoxzSIc

I recall walking through that area late at night* with a colleague, to and from a wonderful Taiwanese restaurant in old Chinatown,
but aside from one fellow pinballing down the street while repeatedly offering us heartfelt, if unsolicited, info on the best places to buy drugs,
a rather uneventful walk.

Reminded me of Shinsekai in Osaka.

Interesting.

Bill Would
Legalize Doctor-Assisted Suicide
in Canada

The proposed law limits physician-assisted suicides to Canadians and residents, who are eligible to participate in the national health care system, preventing a surge in medical tourism among the dying from other countries. Assisted suicide is legal in only a few American states, including Oregon and Vermont.

Under Canada’s proposed law, people who want to die will be able to either commit suicide with medication provided by their doctors or have the doctors administer the dose. Family members will be allowed to assist patients with their death.

Remember Dr. Jack Kevorkian ? ? .. he did the ground work for all this
