Well said Nap.

Politics seems to be the only profession where words only count when you are speaking, but once spoken (or written down) become meaningless.

Now that I read the above, it appears to be a sound basis for a PhD dissertation..... Wow! Sometimes my genius even catches me by surprise.

As evidence for this theory, I present the MSM and politicians.

Speaking of words, what is the first 'English' word we can find in remaining records?

olde english is so germanic its as alien to modern english as norse.

Coming at it from the opposite angle (boom tish) is also fun.

An interesting exercise is to figure out which words have more or less survived; the list off the top of my head:

-this
-crag
-fish
-mete
-angle variations
-abbey?
-swine?
-our
-name could probably be figured out pretty quickly by a man on the street in any age....

------------------------------------

Then English has a good cross-reference with Scots

The Scots and the Australians favour one of the oldest proto germanic words to this day.

https://starkeycomics.com/2019/06/20/en ... n-sexland/
To cut a very long story short, the Heptarchy was finally united into one country by King Alfred of Wessex, to help defend against the Viking invasions. Alfred helped to unify the region by promoting the idea that the Anglo-Saxons were all one people. In our universe, the way he chose to do this was by using the word “Angelcynn” (derived from “Angle”) to describe all the people, in an effort to dissuade the Angles rejecting him as a foreign Saxon ruler. It worked, and the result was the whole area banding together into a single unified nation, which was eventually named England, after the Angles, not the Saxons.

The Celtic nations however continued to call the English after the Saxons: In Irish, we are the Sasanach, and in Welsh, we’re Saesneg.

So it seems that the decision of one man, Alfred of Wessex, could have started a chain of events that may have eventually created a world in which “Sexland” was a country!

It's almost as if polls are often deliberate misinformation..... kinda like maybe the people who do the polling have a vested interest in some potential outcomes more than other potential outcomes.

The UK Tories now have a decisive majority.
Seats required to form a majority government: 326
Seats won: 365 out of a total 650
Seats gained: +47

UK Labour was pounded into the ground.
Seats won: 203
Seats lost: -59

Spiked | Why Labour deserved to lose.
This – in a nutshell – is why Labour was defeated last night, and defeated so badly. Its betrayal of its millions of Brexit voters, its embrace of a second referendum, proved decisive. It was strategically stupid (401 seats voted Leave in the referendum, including most Labour seats). But it was also shameful: the party that was founded to give the working class a voice set out to silence that voice. At their most charitable, Labourites saw Brexit as a cry for help from the left behind. And in place of political power – over the laws and people who govern them – all Labour offered voters at this election were handouts.

Far from obvious to me that the polls were "way off" in the case of the UK election.

What amazes me about liberals from every place I've seen is after the loss they just keep campaigning as if nobody had heard them the first time. It's astonishing. No timeout, no time to reflect, they just keep going as if no election had happened.

probably some truth in this analysis - anti semetic hard lefties are a step to far for anglosphere types, even amongst the left, the election wasnt about Brexit, it was labour being unable to vote for labour.

the fun part for americans is the parallels with Clinton and Biden, not for the beahviour as much as the lack of connection and motivation they provide to their base.

it would be fun to hang out in some British pubs and chat. see if the commoners over there view BoJo similarly to Trump.

still think 2008 looked like the dem base saying FU to the party insiders and 2016 the repubs did the same. Hilary and the DNC preventing the second FU in 2016 may make 2020 a bit volatile.

I heard an interview with Daniel Henniger yesterday.

When asked if he thought France would be the next country to leave the EU, he replied probably not. He thinks the Netherlands will be next.

The Netherlands voted 62% against the Treaty of Lisbon, the current constitution of the EU.

France also voted against by 55%.

After these two losses, the Treaty of Lisbon was imposed by Eurocratic fiat.

At this year’s Labour Party Conference, a motion was passed by Labour members calling for the Party to ‘maintain and
extend free movement rights’ should they get into government.1 This was defined by those who proposed the motion as
extending free movement to countries outside the EU.2 Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has since confirmed that Labour’s
policy is to have ‘as much freedom of movement as possible’.3

In the past, Jeremy Corbyn has confirmed that what comes
out of Labour Party conferences will be adhered to under his leadership in order to ‘empower’ members. Corbyn has gone as far
as to say that: ‘if conference makes a decision I will not walk away from it and I will act accordingly’.4
