Re: Obama tees up war with China
Azari pointed to something that gets lost in this debate over what happened: Russia, Germany/France, and to a slightly lesser extent China (at the time at least) did not want us in the Middle East no matter what. It didn't matter what Saddam was or wasn't up to, they were not going to have it; Russi...

Re: Just a thought
Prayer is supplication and entreaty, and I think it's unfortunate that English doesn't capture prayer particularly well despite the beauty and depth of the language as crafted by Wycliffe; Cranmer; Shakespeare; Milton; Chaucer; Donne and others. Yes, I'm sure for many people praying is much more th...

Re: Why is Obama worse than Bush?
Well you know us aristocrats regard a ranking of preferences to be a fetid and futile demotic exercise that renders peoples obsolete.Mr. Perfect wrote:I like the critique of a Colbertism with another Colbertism (an Obama=Bush comparison revealing your assessment of Bush being the worst President ever)

Re: Why is Obama worse than Bush?
I had to vote on this just for the Stephen Colbert-like question.
"Is Obama the worst President by accident or does he go out of his way to be the worst ever?"

Re: The End of the Electoral College
Napster, thanks for doing the work, I can hardly trouble myself to do it anymore. Certain people have total amnesia before 2003 or 2001, depending. The converse isn't totally dismissible either...Gore may have allocated more resources to fighting in Afghanistan from the get go making a war with Ira...

Re: The End of the Electoral College
If there had been no EC Bush would have won anyway by pursuing a different electoral strategy. Al Gore would have been worse than Bush. He wouldn't have gone to war in Iraq. No, we have no assurance in our speculations that he wouldn't. Start by considering that the Clinton Administration signed th...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
Agreed, it is naked demagoguery. But it's because we love you, all of you- many Americans have stars in their eyes when it comes to Europe Wow. Speak for yourself on that one brother. I'll admit this may be more of a New England thing but most Americans I have spoken to don't seem to have any under...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
Having grown up surrounded by Europeans, and living in Europe, I understand what you are saying but I am not sure if it is applicable or desirable. My experience is that state capitalism is rampant everywhere but Europeans really don't understand how Americans (at least east of the Mississippi) liv...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
I have been working on progressives, people who have even worked on the Obama campaign pointing this out. That Ron Paul will be better for Progressive agendas than Barack Obama. Of course some people still have their minds broken over abortion and they don't vote any other issue. Tht's at the root....

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
Maybe Europeans are as swift as their American counterparts in rejecting the others terminology. We know by now what is meant by social democracy as opposed to socialism but with our traditions, it is not simpatico. Social democracy is not exactly the same as "social capitalism"; I just m...

(*This isn't directed at any posters here so much as to the general attitude you find about Shariah Law in Western dialogues) It is a shame that Muslims have to defend themselves on attempted caricatures thrust upon them. It is in bad form to criticize something that you do not live under unless yo...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
Mr. P. Your clearly don't understand "socialism". You confuse it with social capitalism. Socialism is practically extinct because it didn't work. Social capitalism is what most people in the West support. It does not equal big government, on the contrary. It equals free market, small gove...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
No, the "progressives" have not provides us any reason to trust them when they say they are anti-war. From the early movement (Roosevelt to Roosevelt) they defined American interventionism, then from the New Left's rebranding (cooption, really) of progressivism, they have only shown lip se...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
Sounds like you have your candidate. I wish us both well. I have decided to support Paul despite the newsletters, the things he brings to the table are so enormous and of such long term positive impact, and I can't see him bringing back any racist US policy, so that is how it is going to come down ...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul
The Democrats and Republicans become indistinguishable with a breakdown of their original distinctions. We are hampered because instead of facing obsolescence, the parties continue as zombie apparatuses with a cognitive dissonance in the average citizen which won't hold.

Re: Will Republicans/"Conservatives" Support Obama over Paul
He will be pilloried from all sides. His newsletters will disillusion most left supporters and his anti-war stance makes the right shaky. He is, and will be, successfully labeled a lunatic. Paul's best path is to asseverate his beliefs well enough so as to finish a strong second , thereby leaving hi...

The Real Face of Physics What is called “physics” today is the profession that’s been around for thousands of years. Re: The Nature of Moral Law
Marcus, Descartes erred in attempting to squeeze truth from representation. If a Christian beats his wife, there is no way to separate the Christian identity from the actor. That job belongs to God when he separates the wheat and chaff. There is a moral (character) law written on the hearts of men r...

Re: The Nature of Moral Law
A people's or a nation's law are essentially the codification of its religion. As Torah Law is the codification of Judaism and as English Common Law is more or less the codification of Western Christianity, so too is Sharia Law the codification of Islam. And until Islam gets its act together, until...
