Yes. To paraphrase myself, the pro-California era ended with the first Trump campaign.
California-optimism and California being on the cutting edge materially, culturally, politically; is no longer our experience. Lots of hands killed that golden goose; and while God only knows how it shakes out, someone is going to come along and eulogize or summarize that period in American history.

It shouldn't go without mention here (and quite a few writers I think have articulated it better than I could) that our presidential candidates are very much caricatures of their locales and that entrenched Californian dominance remains on the ballot.
