Returning after some years
Returning after some years
Hi folks,
It doesn't happen often, but sometimes we like to retrace a few steps in life.
I'm ethinker and returned to a familiar forum recently to find some old faces discussing familiar topics. I've been kindly directed here to find some more old friends and debating combatants.
The name of this forum is brilliant IMO, with the feeling of a quest that we can all share. Lots of post reading to do now, and warmest wishes to anyone who actually remembers me.
Alex.

"Manolo" is an account I had a friend made for me when I experienced some... technical difficulties.
Since our registration process is a bit wonky at this time, I gave ethinker access to this account.

Hi folks,
I'm memorising the aliases. Certainly remember you Colonel Sun and Rhapsody.
Mr P, same name and you haven't changed a bit.

Re: Returning after some years
It is an affectionate derivative of the name "Manuel". "Manuel" means "hand of God."Mr. Perfect wrote:Ethinker, what the heck is a manolo.
Most of my grandmother's male ancestors seem to have been named "Manolo".
I have a great grandfather named "Manuel Alvaro Alvaro Alvaro".
The first "Alvaro" is a middle name and the last two are family names (his father's family name followed by his mother's maiden name).
People call him "Manolo" because they don't want to sound like an echo.
Yes, they have rednecks in Cuba.
We out redneck Jeff Foxworthy by a country mile.

Thanks for the education. I think "Kennedy" is the English word for hand of God....
The house I grew up in had a migrant worker camp 3/8 of a mile behind us, down a dirt farm road, on the next paved road over. Our parents never worried about us hanging out with them, they figured the worst we would learn was a great work ethic. We were envious of them cause they had a Coke machine just outside their building. We often bought cans of pop to cover our breath after we smoked a couple of cigarettes.
Yeah, we were bad asses!
We were always more concerned about experiencing the "backhand" of God...... what is the Spanish term for that?
Good to know Hispanics have their share of rednecks also.
I pity the children of the elites. See above example......

Folks,
I would like to keep the screen name 'manolo' as I had a good friend in the Canary Islands called Manolo. Other guys I met over there were Segundo and Monasterios. The Spanish naming customs can seem quite heavy.
